My Juicer!! |
This is not the first time I have had fresh juice. However, it is the first time I have done a juice fast so I thought the title was appropriate. I made my first of many more juices this morning. It went pretty well except I slept late (like I usually do) and didn't get started until 11 A.M. To be honest, I was actually up until 4 A.M. looking at juice recipes online, which is why I slept so late. Everyone tells me that my sleep will get better (sounder and more restful) when I'm juicing, so I'm looking forward to that.
I had a quart of water when I woke up. Apparently, it's really good to kick start your digestive system in the morning. I was also advised that you should drink twice as much water as juice. I am assuming this is to help flush your system and keep you hydrated.
I weighed myself this morning so I have a starting point. I won't divulge that particular information but needless to say I need to lose weight. I thought it would be fun to keep track of my pH balance throughout my fast. I was at a 6.6 this morning. The saliva/urine test strips are not more accurate than a blood test but it's a good reference. For those of you who don't know about pH balances a good range would be above 7.0. It's better for the body to be slightly more alkaline than acidic. The benefits include being able to release toxins in the body easier and the body is better equipped to fight infections and bacteria.
Today, I made Kale Cleanser juice which consisted of obviously Kale, but also cucumber, pineapple, lemon, and celery. I ended up using more kale and celery than in the picture because it didn't seem like very much juice. It made about 20 ounces of juice once I added more. It was a really good juice. I will definitely be making it again. Lemon really helps cut the green flavor when juicing. (NOTE: peel the lemon before juicing, because the peel is very bitter.) The pineapple helps sweeten it. I posted some pictures if anyone is interested.

ReplyDeleteYay for green juice! I am going to have to steal this recipe. And thank you for mentioning the addition of lemon to help counteract the bitterness of the greens. I'll be sure to remember that!
